The Student Injury Prevention Initiative started in 2013. Now in 2016, Phase Three focuses on ensuring that student injury prevention is approached in a sustained, proactive and systematic way including boards providing information through online surveys on current policies, procedures and structures that lead to a culture of safety mindedness and student injury prevention.
Phase Three also includes the development of long-term school board student injury prevention plans.

Board Surveys and Student Injury Prevention Plans

A very important part of Phase Three is surveying boards on current policies, procedures and structures that lead to a culture of safety mindedness and support student injury prevention. To achieve this, the CODE school boards completed six surveys, which included:

  • Survey One: SIPI Board General Survey
  • Survey Two: The Arts
  • Survey Three: Health and Physical Education (Gr. 1-8, 9-12)
  • Survey Four: Science (Gr. 9-12)
  • Survey Five: Science and Technology (Gr. 1-8)
  • Survey Six: Technological Education (Gr. 9-12)

As a further support to boards a team of CODE Student Injury Prevention Initiative (SIPI) Phase Three Regional Leads are working with their school board partners to assist boards as they complete surveys and develop their board SIPI plan. The CODE Student Injury Prevention Regional Leads are:

  • Cathi Siemieniuk, Thunder Bay Region
  • Ken Ryan, Sudbury North Bay Region
  • Larry Clifford, Toronto and Area Region
  • Linda Fabi, London Region
  • Michael Ash, Barrie Region
  • Charlotte Patterson, Ottawa Region
  • Maurice Glaude, French Language Boards
Key Dates for the Student Injury Prevention Initiative are:
  • Surveys completed by November 30, 2016
  • Board Plans Submitted to CODE by April 30, 2017
  • Response to Boards regarding their three to five year SIP plans May 2017 to June 2017

Sample Plan Suggestions:

These sample plans represent ways that boards may wish to communicate elements of their plans, recognizing each board can use their own internal processes for developing and communicating their system-wide three to five year Student Injury Prevention Plans

Please note the sample plans are suggestions only and not intended to be templates that board must use. Boards can develop their system-wide plans in a format that best meets their needs.
