Assessment and Intervention/Use of Data Strategies are:
Linked to School and Board Improvement Plans
- In the Northeastern Catholic District School Board, use of the Binder of Assessment Tests in Literacy (BAT) is aligned with School Improvement Plans and Board Improvement Plans. Data about phonological awareness, alphabetic understanding (Clay), letter/sound awareness, sight word recognition, Morrison-McCall results, and Reading Records are collected centrally using A+ (Paradigm). - In the London Region, student profiles contain information about achievement, learning styles and interests. Some boards use electronic profiles, stored electronically (Compass for Success). The student profiles are developed collaboratively between classroom teachers and special education staff. They are used to track rates of progress in skill acquisition; provide a cumulative profile; identify students requiring Tier 2 interventions; and to provide a summary for communication to families. The principal can access school-wide data to inform school effectiveness and school improvement planning. [London Region Final Report]
- In Upper Grand District School Board, a series of workshops to promote developmentally appropriate practices in junior kindergarten-grade one was held for school administrators, kindergarten teachers, and grade one teachers. The focus on developmentally appropriate practices was also documented within the board improvement plan and this fostered system-wide understanding of the importance of implementing these practices.
