Parent Engagement and Community Collaboration are:
Authentic, Ongoing Engagement
- In Toronto Catholic District School Board, information sharing between school staff and community partners is considered essential in the planning and personalization of instruction to meet the needs of individual students. To support this process, a sample release of information form is being prepared by the board to facilitate dialogue between school staff and community supports (e.g., early childhood education staff in community settings). - Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board hosts the "Best Start" program in nine of its schools. "Best Start" programs provide school readiness through early learning and licensed childcare; easier accessibility for families requiring childcare; access to a wide range of early learning and childcare services; and extended hours. - In the London Region, staff members collaborate with agencies, providers, and families in order to prioritize needs and assist in school entry and transitions. Information packages are prepared for parents; there is ongoing communication throughout the transition process; and the Connections Project transition process provides ongoing alignment and support for all high needs students.
