The Technology and Learning Fund
Welcome and Introduction
The Council of Ontario Directors of Education continues to partner and co-sponsor with the Ministry of Education implementation of Ontario's Technology and Learning Fund.
Consistent with the ministry's renewed vision and core proprieties for education, the Technology and Learning Fund is directed towards increasing technology-enabled pedagogical practices focused on key 21st century competencies such as critical thinking, problem-solving collaboration, communication, creativity and entrepreneurship.
To support sector-wide progress toward its renewed vision, the Ministry announced a commitment to invest in the $150M Technology and Learning Fund over three years, with the goals of:
- Enabling innovative teaching practices and instructional methods through technology to more precisely engage and address the learning needs of all students;
- Investing in the technology, design, and infrastructure required for the classrooms of the future to serve the needs of all communities;
- Working with teachers, principals and supervisory officials (and their professional associations) to identify and share effective and innovative teaching practices that include the use of technology;
- Contributing to a provincial focus on defining and developing measures for higher-order 21st Century competencies such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity and entrepreneurship.
Since 2011, the Ministry of Education and the Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE) have worked together through the Ministry of Education's Technology and Learning Fund to support Ontario schools as they change teaching practice and build engagement, learning and increased achievement for students throughout the province.
This year, again each school board in Ontario received funding through the Technology and Learning Fund to support technology enhanced learning and Round 4 of the 21st Century Innovative Research Initiative.
